Stains are fundamentally the same: metals come out of solution and attach to the surface of the pool. Depending on the severity and nature of the stain, certain chemicals have better results. Here we have arranged our stain removers based on the severity of the issue. All our stain removers are compatible on every surface.
Light Staining Recommendation
For light stains, we recommend using Citrus Treat™. It’s all natural formula is safe to be used straight directly on any surface.
To prevent future staining for up to 60 days, we recommend you consider using Pool Stain Treat® to prevent future stains. It’s chelating agents bind metals to keep them from staining.
Moderate Staining Recommendation
For moderate level of staining, we recommend using Pool Stain Treat® for both removal of the stain and prevention.
In addition, we recommend you check your Alkalinity level and consider lowering it 10 to 20 ppm. This will help prevent future metal staining.
Heavy Staining Recommendation
For heavier staining, we recommend first treating the stains with Super Stain Treat™. It’s powerful formula will remove those extra stubborn stains.
Once the stains have been removed, we recommend you wait for 3 days and then add Pool Stain Treat® to bind metals in the water and prevent stains for up to 60 days. It’s important to wait 3 days or more before applying Pool Stain Treat®.
We also recommend that you lower your Total Alkalinity 10 to 20 ppm to help reduces future staining.
Severe Staining Recommendations
In situations with extremely heavy staining (severe to the point of considering an acid wash), we recommend using No Dran® Acid Wash. This process provides results comparable to acid washing while both being gentler on the surface and requiring no draining.
Following the No Dran® Acid Wash we recommend maintaining your alkalinity based on the Hamilton Index™ and using Pool Stain Treat® to prevent future staining. Pool Stain Treat® is based on the same formula as No Dran® Acid Wash and prevents staining up to 60 days by binding metals in the water.
